com.apple.internetconfig.plist bug: settings changes lost

CNET staff
Brad Oliver describes this bug in InternetConfig in Mac OS X 10.1.3 (we confirmed it):
  1. Launch MS Entourage (perhaps any Internet app will do).
  2. Launch Internet Explorer
  3. Change some of the auto-fill preferences in Explorer, or some of the security settings.
  4. Quit Explorer and Entourage. Then relaunch Explorer. The settings changes you made are gone. However, if you had instead quit and relaunched just Explorer, the settings do not vanish

Brad writes: "What appears to happen is that, when Entourage quits, it writes out settings to com.apple.internetconfig.plist, completely oblivious to the fact that an app (in this case Internet Explorer) changed settings in that file since Entourage was launched.

The work-around is if you're going to be changing settings that would get written to com.apple.internetconfig.plist, you need to make sure you quit all apps except one before doing so."
