Canon refreshes its PowerShot range by launching three new cameras to replace existing models.

Set to take the place of the compact 6-megapixel PowerShot A700, Canon today announced the PowerShot A710IS which is little more than an incremental upgrade. Besides upping the sensor resolution from 6-megapixel to 7.1-megpixel, the A710 offers image stabilisation, first seen in Canon's compact cameras with the IXUS 800IS. The A710IS also features 6x optical zoom with 1cm macro functionality, a 2.5-inch LCD screen and the DiG!C I image processor.

New models were also introduced to replace two other PowerShots, the A630 replacing the A610 and the A640 replacing the A620. Both new additions include 4x optical zoom, a 2.5-inch LCD display and manual controls to give snapshot users greater control over their photographs. The A630 bumps its resolution from 5-megapixel to 8-megapixel while the A640 goes from 7.1-megapixel to a whopping 10-megapixel.

These just-released offerings should be available in Australia very soon, slated to arrive in September.
