Boot Camp 2.1 spontaneous reboots: update driver

Updating a graphics card driver may do the trick.

CNET staff

Users also continue to report an issue in which Boot Windows continuously, spontaneously reboots after installation of Boot Camp 2.1. We previously noted that this issue can sometimes be resolved by disabling the Apple keyboard driver via the following process:

  1. Start Windows in Safe Mode by pressing the F8 key repeatedly as Windows is booting
  2. In control panel, navigate to: Administration > System Configuration > Start > and deselect kbdmgr then restart normally.

It now appears that updating other drivers can resolve the problem. MacFixIt reader John Costagliola reports that updating his system's ATI graphics card driver did the trick:

"I found installing ATI driver dated 10/07 from AMD website solved the reboot problem."

Determine which type of graphics card your Mac uses (under Mac OS X, this can be determined with System Profiler, located in /Applications/Utilities), then check the manufacturer's Web site or VersionTracker Windows for an updated XP or Vista driver.
