Mike Mihalik (of La Cie Limited) writes: "Several vendors including La Cie have been selling a 4x8x CD-R drive based on the Matsushita CW-7502B drive mechanism. La Cie has found this drive to be quite popular, but there has been a significant compatibility problem with the G3 Macs, as well as any of the MESH based Power Macs which usually have internal IDE drives. We have been working closely with Adaptec and Matsushita to identify and resolve the problem.

Today, we have good news. We have new firmware for the drives which update them to v3.07, and seem to correct all the reported problems. We also expect to have an updater to v3.5.4 of Toast to address other issues with this drive. As of today, it is not yet available. We expect it any day now.

At the request of Matsushita, they have asked La Cie to make the update available to non-La Cie customers, as there is no support organization here in the US for this drive. Several other companies have imported this drive and are selling it as a bare drive as well as a configured system here in the US. Therefore our updates web page for this drive has information for both La Cie customers as well as others who may have this drive."

When available, the updates will be on the La Cie web site.
