Apple has released Security Update 2005-002, which "delivers a number of security enhancements and is recommended for all Macintosh users."

Components of Mac OS X affected by this update include:

  • Java Web Start
  • JavaPluginCocoa.bundle
  • JavascriptCore
  • Core Java classes

The new update is available through either Software Update or as a standalone Web download [16.4 MB].

Scattered reports of problems are already coming in, with a handful of users reporting problems starting up, and at least one reader reporting problems with multiple displays:

MacFixIt reader Mike Gallagher writes:

"I just installed today's Security Update for Mac OS X and now my second monitor no longer works. It was on and working before and during the installation of the update but after the restart its just a black screen. I was wondering if anyone else was reporting problems like this."
