Apple releases Aluminum keyboard firmware update 1.1

Apple has released a small update for their bluetooth aluminum keyboards, which improves battery performance for the 2007 model of the keyboard when used in conjunction with Apple's Magic Mouse and some bluetooth headsets.

The update also fixes a problem with key repetition when typing on wired keyboards, where some keys would get stuck and continue inputting characters. The update is 1.52MB available at the following location: http://support.apple.com/kb/DL997

After you apply the firmware, check to ensure the keyboard has been updated to the latest version, which can be seen in System Profiler under "Bluetooth" devices. If you use a wireless keyboard the new firmware will be version 321, and if you use a wired keyboard the version will be 0.69.

Be sure to follow the update instructions carefully, since errors during firmware updates may result in a nonfunctional keyboard. As a safeguard, you might locate an alternative keyboard to have as a backup one it is available (no need to go buy one, and any old USB keyboard should do) in case of potential problems. The probability of errors is rare, but it is always a possibility.
