Apple acknowledges USB sound input problems

Further to some of the USB issues that we've been following in connection with the 10.4.10 system update - in particular, the loss of sound input functionality through certain USB devices - users on the Apple discussions list are now beginning to report that Apple has confirmed this as a known issue. Here is how one user quotes Apple's email response:
This is a follow up to Bug ID# 5287979. After further investigation it has been determined that this is a known issue, which is currently being investigated by engineering. This issue has been filed in our bug database under the original Bug ID# 5285354.
Observe that these users reported the problem, not at the Apple feedback URL that we cited in our tutorial, but at https://bugreport.apple.com. This bug report form, which is intended for developers, requires an ADC (Apple Developer Connection) membership. However, such membership is free if you choose the "Online" membership level.
