AirPort Software Base Station: The Vicomsoft alternative

Recently, we noted that while the AirPort Base Station is now shipping, Apple's promised AirPort Software Base Station (which allows a Mac to serve as a Base Station equivalent) is not yet available.

However, Bryan Keet (of Vicomsoft) informs us that "you can use Vicomsoft SurfDoubler, SoftRouter Plus or the Internet Gateway to share an Internet connection using AirPort." Vicomsoft also has a Wireless Networking Q & A with more details.

Other readers have found that IPNetRouter can similarly serve as an alternative to the Software Base Station.

Speaking of Vicomsoft, Vicomsoft Internet Gateway 6.5.2 and Vicomsoft SurfDoubler Plus 6.5.2 were just released.
