MacFixIt reader "Julian S." writes to tell us that his recently purchased 17-inch MacBook Pro has had iTunes crashing due to the 3ivx VideoCodec.

Julian writes:

"Running a new 17" MacBook Pro, I found that every time I tried to import a file into the iTunes library, or sync an iPod Touch, the program crashed. The cause turned out to be the 3ivxVideoCodec plug-in. Removing the plug-in fixed the problem."
Often, when a particular program continues to crash, it can be linked to third-party add-ons. Check for any additional software that may affect the crashing program and remove, disable, or update them. As always, be sure to have a stable backup when troubleshooting crashing programs.
