13-inch retina display MacBook Pro is super-slim, but pricey

Apple's made a 13-inch version of its MacBook Pro that packs a retina display and is 20 per cent thinner than the current model.

Apple unveiled its new toy at an event this evening. The iPad-spawning company says the retina-packing MacBook Pro measures just 19mm inches thick, weighs about 1.6kg and has a stonkingly high pixel count.

Specifically, this aluminium box of tricks packs a 2,560x1,600-pixel panel -- nearly twice the resolution of a 1080p TV. If you liked the 15-inch retina-packing MacBook Pro but thought it looked a little bulky, this could be the laptop for you.

You can choose up to 768GB of flash storage and 8GB of RAM, Intel Core i5 or Core i7 processors, while other features include a FaceTime HD camera, two Thunderbolt ports, an SD card slot, HDMI output and USB 3.0.

The bad news is that this computing powerhouse will cost you an arm and a leg. The price starts at £1,449, but will quickly climb if you decide to add more storage or a more powerful processor. A model that has 256GB of flash storage is also available, and starts at £1,699.

The good news is this device starts shipping immediately, so if you've got loads of cash you want to get rid of, you won't have to wait long.
