David lives in Brooklyn where he's spent more than a decade covering all things edible, including meal kit services, food subscriptions, kitchen tools and cooking tips. Whilst earning a BA in English from Northeastern he toiled in nearly every aspect of the food business (including as a line cook in Rhode Island where he once made a steak sandwich for Lamar Odom.) Right now he's likely somewhere stress-testing a blender or the best way to cook bacon. Anything with sesame is his all-time favorite food this week.

Ninja Air Fryer

Safe and fast. This mini Ninja air fryer is the ultimate dorm accessory for fall.

Ninja

If I could do college over again, I'd do a few things differently, most of them academically related. I'd also nudge the inventor of air fryers to hurry on up because, oooh-ee, would it have been nice to have one of these safe, fast and easy cookers in my freshman dorm or subsequent tiny kitchen-having apartment. Luckily, I can live my best collegiate culinary life vicariously through nieces and nephews as they ship off for school this fall. I'm buying each of them one of these Ninja 2-quart air fryers while it's down to just $50 (normally $80) for Amazon for Prime Day. Cool uncle superpower activated!

Ninja consistently ranks first on our list of best air fryers. This smaller model packs as much power per square inch as the bigger models but is perfectly sized for a dorm or starter dwelling. Air fryers are safe (no gas or flame), easy to operate and work incredibly fast. They're perfect for heating a slice of last night's pizza or cooking off some healthy chicken thighs instead of making a third trip to the mess hall pasta bar.

After cold hard cash, it's the best thing you could give your grad before they head off to start their first semester.
