Judge Dredd to lay down the law in TV show
The hotly-anticipated "Dredd" sequel could be happening on the small screen.
Comic book crimefighter Judge Dredd could be bringing his iconic helmet and permanent scowl to TV.
A television adaptation of the long-running comic is in development, entitled "Judge Dredd: Mega City One". That's great news for fans of the 2012 film adaptation "Dredd", which has built a cult following and a steady drumbeat of calls for a sequel.
Created by John Wagner and Carlos Ezquerra in 1977, Judge Dredd is the flagship character in long-running British sci-fi comic 2000AD. Dredd has appeared on the big screen twice: played by Sylvester Stallone in a cartoonish 1995 blockbuster, and by Karl Urban in the more faithfully gritty but conspicuously cheaper 2012 adaptation.
Urban has continuously stoked fan clamour for a sequel on his social media, but there's no word yet on whether he's is involved with the proposed TV project.
The show is being developed in partnership between 2000AD's owner, games studio Rebellion, and movie company IM Global. IM Global also has TV shows based on Kurt Vonnegut's "Cat's Cradle" and the movies "The Boondock Saints" in development.
