Halle Bailey as Ariel in Disney's live-action The Little Mermaid.

Disney

Disney has released its first poster for upcoming live-action movie The Little Mermaid, showing a full shot of Halle Bailey as Ariel.

"Words can't describe how immensely honored I feel to play the mermaid of my dreams, Ariel in Disney's The Little Mermaid," Bailey tweeted Thursday. "Come under the sea with me, in theaters May 26, 2023."

The poster follows Disney finally showing off a teaser trailer for the remake of the animated classic last month during the D23 Expo, after casting Halle Bailey as Ariel back in July 2019.

In the trailer, Ariel swims through her treasure trove of human objects and sings Part of Your World.

Joining Bailey is Jonah Hauer-King, who plays Prince Eric, Melissa McCarthy as sea witch Ursula, Javier Bardem as King Triton, Daveed Diggs as Sebastian the crab, Jacob Tremblay as Flounder, Awkwafina as Scuttle the seagull, Art Malik as Sir Grimsby and Noma Dumezweni as new character Queen Selina.

Lin-Manuel Miranda wrote lyrics for the movie's soundtrack, which was scored by original Little Mermaid composer Alan Menken.

The Little Mermaid is scheduled to be released in theaters on May 26, 2023. You can watch the 1989 animated version on Disney Plus now.
