MagicBand Plus on Bridget Carey's arm

The MagicBand Plus arrived in Disney World in the summer.

Disney has revealed the launch date of the MagicBand Plus in the Disneyland and California Adventure parks. From Oct. 26, guests will be able to purchase one and use it as their park entry ticket and link their Lightning Lane passes and Photopass photos to it.

If you're a Magic Key holder, Disney Vacation Club member or Disney cast member, you can get the MagicBand Plus even earlier -- you'll be able to purchase one of the devices from Oct. 19 and try it out in the parks.

The MagicBand Plus will vibrate, glow and pulsate in time to the music and fireworks during World of Color at California Adventure and Fantasmic at Disneyland -- and will be compatible with the new nighttime spectaculars launching as part of Disney 100 Years of Wonder (Disney100) celebration kicking off in January.

Over in Star Wars: Galaxy's Edge, guests can also use it "to seek virtual bounties hidden across Black Spire Outpost in the Star Wars: Batuu Bounty Hunters interactive quest."

No word yet on when the MagicBand Plus can be used to pay for dining and merchandise at Disneyland, or as a Disney hotel room key -- both of which are capabilities of the Disney World version.

Here's where you can buy a MagicBand Plus:

  • Disneyland: Emporium, Pioneer Mercantile, Tomorrow Landing
  • California Adventure: Elias & Co., Trolley Treats, Oswald's, Seaside Souvenirs
  • Downtown Disney: World of Disney, Disney's Pin Traders
  • Disneyland Resorts: Disney's Fantasia Shop (Disneyland Hotel), Mickey in Paradise (Paradise Pier Hotel), Acorns Gifts & Goods (Disney's Grand Californian Resort)

How to set up your MagicBand Plus

Once you've purchased a MagicBand Plus, here's how to set it up:

  • Turn on your MagicBand Plus by pressing on the button on the back once
  • Tap the band to the back of your phone
  • Open or download the Disneyland app
  • Read the instructions provided by the app to link your wearable to your Disney account, pairing it with your ticket and phone.
