Crave TV: Canis Canem Edit

Canis Canem Edit (aka Bully) lets you run around a school, beating up the other pupils. It also teaches some moral lessons, but is this enough to sway the critics?

GameSpot's Guy Cocker takes a guest spot on CNET.co.uk to look at this year's most controversial videogame, Canis Canem Edit (also known as Bully). In this game you play a young schoolboy sent away to a boarding school and left to fend for himself amid the rampant bullying and institutional corruption.

Canis pulls no punches in its depiction of modern schooling. The Bullworth Academy is a stereotypical American school in the vein of Westerberg High in Heathers, rife with social cliques that vie for attention. Missions in the game include tasks such as returning stolen chocolates to a fat girl or defending weaker children, and the game is ultimately more morally sophisticated than its critics feared.
