Toyota must be getting sick of people calling it dull, because for sheer absurdity, no vehicle we saw at the 2010 SEMA Show impressed like Toyota's Swagger Wagon Supreme concept. Based on the new 2011 Sienna, this stretched out concept takes moving people to the next level.
The Swagger Wagon Supreme features a wheelbase that's been stretched by 44 inches, creating much more room for people and gadgets, but essentially retaining its seven-seat configuration. From the front seats to about the tailgate, the Sienna's carpet has been replaced with wood flooring. The second row captain's chairs that are available on the standard Sienna have gained swiveling abilities and been moved rearward to make room for a rear-facing spa seat with massage function and custom cabinetry that houses a glass refrigerator stocked with family-friendly beverages. The Supreme sits on 20-inch chrome wheels and an airbag suspension that can be lowered from 6.5-inches to only 2.5-inches of ground clearance. Under the hood, the standard 3.5-liter V-6 pulls this beast around by the front axle--slowly, we're sure.
Cabin tech gets a boost with a 23-inch HP TouchSmart computer mounted on a custom ceiling bracket that can be positioned for viewing in and outside of the vehicle, an Xbox 360, and a custom JBL surround sound audio system that features the stock Sienna JBL headunit, 16 speakers around the cabin and in the rear hatch, two subwoofers, and 1,700 watts of amplification. Where the hell was this thing when I was a kid?
Toyota claims that the Swagger Wagon Supreme concept (we feel goofier every time we have to type that name) "further re-examines the role of the minivan and pushes even harder against the traditional boundaries of the minivan identity." We think Toyota may be just a bit off its rocker... but in a good way.
