TomTom Go Live 1535 M searches the Web, tweets your trip (review)

The TomTom Go Live 1535M's is a solidly performing GPS device and its app integration for search is a nice first, but that's hardly this PND's strongest feature.

Testing GPS devices can be a grind--a dull, boring grind. So when a device comes along promising to revolutionize portable navigation devices, I tend to perk up and take notice. The TomTom Go Live 1535M is one of those attention-getters.

When this portable navigation device (PND) was announced a few weeks ago, I was intrigued by its integration of travel apps that enable the user to tap into Yelp, Trip Advisor, Expedia, and Google Local Search services for up-to-date point-of-interest data and reviews via the same Live data service that beams in its HD Traffic data. I was even more intrigued by the 1535M's ability to tweet a users' location, destination, and estimated time of arrival.

Going into the testing process, I'll admit that I was more excited about the search apps than tweeting. However, by the end of my time with the Go Live 1535M, that pre-assessment had been turned on its head thanks to a clunky connected search interface and streamlined Twitter integration that is totally automated and all but invisible once the trip is underway.
