Toshiba's L9400 flagship boosts contrast, color

LAS VEGAS -- Of all the companies we’ve spoken to, the one that is most excited about the coming of 4K is Toshiba. It's been interested in this technology for several years and was one of the first to show off auto-stereoscopic 3D (glasses-less) using a 4K panel. While no one really cares about 3D now, glasses or not, Toshiba is attaching itself limpet-like to the other possibilities of this new resolution in the hope it will reverse the fortunes of the company, which gave up manufacturing its own panels two years ago.
Now that plasma's (pretty much) gone with the exit of Panasonic, LCD-based companies like Toshiba and Vizio are putting the focus back on picture-quality enhancements like local dimming. The L9400 features a Full Array LED backlight in conjunction with a brighter panel, which should see a boost in overall contrast levels.
Toshiba’s 4K range features a proprietary technology it calls CQ 4K which comes with a number of picture enhancements including upscaling and detail enhancement.
In a bid to improve the field of terrible onboard sound, Toshiba has introduced a new folded speaker system that should produce more bass than do most TV sets.
The L9400 includes the Smart TV Cloud Portal, which includes a new Flip Bar and 3D animations.
The L9400 will be available in June to July of 2014 with pricing to be announced.
