If there is a company that can go head to head with Sony in the style department, it's Philips. The company's 34-inch, 16:9, direct-view, HDTV-capable set--dubbed the 34PW9817--is a pretty stunning piece of equipment that produces an excellent picture. Unfortunately, like Sony's high-end direct-view sets, the 34PW9817 comes at a rather lofty price.
