Logitech QuickCam for Notebooks Pro review: Logitech QuickCam for Notebooks Pro

Logitech QuickCam for Notebooks Pro

Lara Luepke
Logitech QuickCam for Notebooks Pro
The Logitech QuickCam for Notebooks Pro offers solid image quality and an impressive accessories package, but its flat color quality and its microphone leave room for improvement. Setup is fairly simple and quick, and the QuickCam's software bundle makes this device worth the $100 price. Included on the installation CD is a simple picture-and-video tool, with an intuitive control panel for adjusting the brightness, the contrast, and the sharpness of the picture, as well as adjusting audio levels, the zoom, and face tracking, where the camera follows and zooms in on your face as you move. Logitech also includes Roxio VideoWave Movie Creator, which lets you shoot and edit films, then burn them onto a CD. The camera's lens is easy to focus, and the snap button at the top of the camera lets you take still pictures.

Unfortunately, the QuickCam's built-in microphone is prone to echo and is not as sensitive as others we've tested. The camera, which comes with its own plastic carrying case, hangs on the brim of the laptop screen. Although the included stand is secure, it's difficult to adjust: the legs don't lock in place, so it tends to slip, and it can't swivel from side to side.

Logitech QuickCam for Notebooks Pro

The Good

Good picture quality; impressive software package.

The Bad

Difficult to adjust; microphone experiences some interference; color quality is flat.

The Bottom Line

This portable Webcam has solid picture quality and is a convenient partner for instant-messaging programs, but its sound and color quality leave room for improvement.
