'Waterproof, drop-proof' Kyocera Hydro Life joins T-Mobile, MetroPCS for $125

With a thicker skin than your average smartphone, Kyocera's latest Android handset also preserves your budget.

Splash-happy Kyocera has once again added a hydrophilic smartphone to its roster. The Kyocera Hydro Life is big on military spec against impact, dust, and water, and more humble on its hardware, making for an affordable $125 (off-contract) Android smartphone you don't have to baby near the sink, tub, or pool.

Details are a little slim right now, but we do know that the Android-powered phone has a 4.5-inch qHD LCD display, and 5- and 2-megapixel cameras on the back and front, respectively. T-Mobile's Wi-Fi calling helps keep you connected in out-of-network areas, and the phone comes stuffed with a 2,000 mAh battery.

On the topic of those durability specs we talked about, the Hydro life meets Military Standard 810G for drops and shocks, and IP57 certification means that the phone can withstand both dust and a dunking in water for up to 30 minutes and a meter deep, about 3 feet.

The Hydro Life sells at T-Mobile and Walmart on August 8 and joins MetroPCS on August 29.
