Fujifilm FinePix E900

I've been reviewing hardware and software, devising testing methodology and handed out buying advice for what seems like forever; I'm currently absorbed by computers and gaming hardware, but previously spent many years concentrating on cameras. I've also volunteered with a cat rescue for over 15 years doing adoptions, designing marketing materials, managing volunteers and, of course, photographing cats.

The Fujifilm FinePix E900 seems like it must be too compact a camera to contain the company's new 9-megapixel Super CCD HR, but Fujifilm claims this basic black addition to the FinePix E series packs it in just fine.

Upside: With many of the same innards as the FinePix S9000 but a design, a feature set, and a spec list similar to that of the FinePix E550, which we liked, this camera seems to have some potential for the snapshot crowd.

Downside: It also has the same lens as the E550, which didn't perform very well.

Outlook: Slated to ship in October for $499, the Fujifilm FinePix E900 will have lots of competition for your holiday gift dollars, and that high-resolution hook isn't nearly as strong as it once was. Check back for our review of the E900 for a final judgment.
