D-Link ships first AV2 2000 PowerLine kit, which promises to deliver top performance

D-Link announces the availability of the first AV2 2000 PowerLine kit, the DHP-701AV, that's capable of delivering much faster speed over a home's electrical wiring compared with existing power line adapters.

The new AV 2000 power line kit from D-Link. D-Link

Powerline performance turns a new page today as D-Link announced the availability of the PowerLine AV2 2000 Gigabit Network Extender Kit (model DHP-701AV).

The networking vendor claims that this is the first power line adapter kit that supports the AV2 2000 MIMO standard, which is capable of delivering a data rate of up to 2,000Mbps via a home's electrical wiring.

The kit includes two identical adapters, model DHP-700AV. Just like with any other power line kits, to create the first power line connection, you just need to connect one adapter to an existing router, and the second one to a device at a far corner of the house. After that, plug both adapters into their power outlets and the wired connection is established. To extend the power line network, you just need an extra adapter for each additional device.

D-Link says the PowerLine Extender DHP-701AV Kit features a button to create a secure connection between the adapters. The kit also features the latest in AV2 Multiple Input Multiple Output (MIMO) technology, enabling the adapters to transfer larger files and and manage heavy tasks, such as 4K media streaming, with ease. The technology also allows the adapters to utilize the fastest two wires in a typical three-wire (live, neutral and ground) installation to achieve maximum performance.

The main benefits of the DHP-701AV kit includes:

  • PowerLine AV2 technology: speeds of up to 2,000Mpbs
  • MIMO technology: provides significantly enhanced coverage; particularly for previously hard-to-reach outlets
  • Plug-and-play installation: push-button network setup -- no software required

Note that despite the support for AV2000 standard, the kit's adapters each feature a Gigabit network port; this means the top data rate will be that of a Gigabit connection. For real-world performance, check back soon for the kit's in-depth review.
