In brief

It's that time of year when Canon's compact range of cameras gets an overhaul in the lead-up to Christmas. This little camera is the successor to the IXUS 220 HS, one of the pocket rockets from 2011 that matches style with good image-taking substance. There's quite a few improvements over the old model, including a bump to a 3-inch LCD screen and 8x optical zoom.

The high sensitivity (HS) image sensor carries over from the 220, which is designed for low light shooting. As you can see from the images above it comes in three colours, plus it comes equipped with full HD video recording. The 230 HS, along with the IXUS 1100 HS and PowerShot SX150 HS will be available from the end of September. All local prices are to be confirmed closer to the release date.
