Adobe Fireworks CS4

Adobe Fireworks CS4

Elsa Wenzel

Like the other Creative Suite 4 applications, Fireworks offers interface enhancements that can enable more fluid work flows.

With Adobe Fireworks CS4, you can prototype complex Web site designs that can be brought into Dreamweaver for coding, editing projects that can be shared among the rest of Creative Suite 4 and destined for various media, including the Web, the desktop, print, and mobile devices.

We like Fireworks CS4's snap-to alignment of items on a page, thanks to Smart Guides. In addition, there are new slice types. Typesetting capabilities also take a step forward with text wrapping around strange shapes, and offering more consistency with Photoshop and Illustrator. Plus, symbols can be edited in place. Now Fireworks can export designs as CSS layouts that include external style sheets, as PDF documents, or as Web-enabled Adobe AIR applications for the desktop.

Fireworks CS4 costs $299 or $149 to upgrade, and can be found bundled within the CS4 suites shown in the chart below.

This application is set to hit stores this fall along with the rest of Adobe Creative Suite 4.
