Short Bio: Professor of Cultural Geography & Political Economy specializing in Turkey and natural resource-based development exemplified by its $35 billion Southeast Anatolia Development Project (a.k.a. GAP), which aims to build up to 22 large dams on the Tigris & Euphrates Rivers in order to exploit the country's hydropower potential and dramatically expand irrigation agriculture in its driest and poorest region in a bid to mitigate Kurdish nationalism/separatism through water-based economic development and integration.
