Mario and Sonic are finally getting the Hollywood treatment. Just like movie icons on Hollywood Boulevard's Walk of Fame, these two game icons now have their own star in the newly unveiled Walk of Game in San Francisco.

The Walk of Game honours the gaming world's biggest stars via a walkway on the ground floor in San Francisco's Metreon entertainment complex. The first six stars on the walk were officially unveiled to the public yesterday. Sonic and Mario were recognised in the category of favourite games characters, as was Link from the Legend of Zelda games and Master Chief from the Halo series.

Games pioneers Shigeru Miyamoto and Nolan Bushnell also got their stars on the Walk of Game in the Lifetime Achievement Category. Miyamoto is the creator of such iconic games as Mario Brothers and Donkey Kong. Bushnell was one of the co-founders of Atari and created the game Pong.

Every year, Walk Of Game accepts votes in the categories of Game/Character and Lifetime Achievement. The top four Games/Characters and the top two lifetime achievers are inducted into Walk Of Game and have a 24"x 24", customized star installed on the floors of Metreon. 2006 nominations will be announced in late 2005.
