The Witcher 3 Blood and Wine is definitely the end, say devs

The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt developer CD Projekt Red has put to rest any speculation that the studio may be working on a new entry in the series after the Blood & Wine DLC is launched.

"I can assure you we are not working on another Witcher," said studio co-founder Marcin Iwinski, speaking to Eurogamer. "This is the end. Blood and Wine is [the] closing and there won't be any Witcher any time soon -- if there ever will be one."

CD Projekt Red has previously confirmed it will release a new game later this year. Although there are no details on this unannounced title, it will reportedly be a "new type of video game format previously unexplored by the studio."

The studio is also developing Cyberpunk 2077, which is penciled in for launch in the 2017-2021 window. In addition to this, it has said it plans to release another AAA RPG in that same period. This, many speculated, would be a new Witcher title. Iwinski's statements, however, indicate otherwise.

The Witcher 3's game director, Konrad Tomaszkiewicz, previously expressed an interest in returning to the series after the studio was done with Cyberpunk 2077.

"Personally, I hope that someday in the future we will do something more, because I love the setting and I [worked] on The Witcher games around 12 years right now," he said. "But I don't know what we will decide. The strategy plan they've got they will share with us soon. We'll see."

Blood and Wine launches on May 31 for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC. It is The Witcher 3's second paid expansion, following Hearts of Stone last October. Blood and Wine features more than 90 new quests and 40 points of interest to explore. Overall, the content should offer around 30 hours of gameplay.

The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt has shipped around 10 million copies. A Witcher movie is also in the works with The Mummy producers, but CD Projekt Red does not appear to be involved. The film is expected to premiere in 2017, but there are no details on a cast, director, or story.
