The Rock announces Black Adam's release date at Times Square

To be fair, that's a very cool way to announce a movie's release date.

Given that The Rock, aka Dwayne Johnson, is the biggest movie star on the planet, it's surprising he hasn't played a superhero in the Marvel or DC universe yet.

But come July 29, 2022, the wait will be over. That's when Black Adam, in which the latest DC superhero will hit the big screen, is set to be released.

The Rock has been teasing details for ages on his social media pages but on Sunday, in Times Square, he literally announced the date himself.

Of all the ways to announce a release date, booming it over a giant speaker in Times Square ranks pretty high.

Black Adam will focus on the superhero who was initially created as Shazam's archnemesis. Black Adam is an anti-hero of sorts, but his story is also being used to launch the cinematic version of Justice Society of America, a group that came before the Justice League. Black Adam will also star Aldis Hodge as Hawkman and will be directed by Jaume Collet-Serra, who previously directed The Rock in Jungle Cruise.

Below is the teaser released in August.
