Worldwide PlayStation 4 shipments reach 60 million

Shipments are up from last year by about 2.3 million units.

PlayStation 4 shipments hit the 60 million mark worldwide, Sony said Friday in its earnings announcement for 2016.

For the 2016 fiscal year, Sony said it shipped 20 million of the the gaming consoles, which is up from 17.7 million from the previous year.

Sony did not immediately respond to a request for comment as to the increase in sales.

PS4 first launched in November 2013. Sony expects to ship another 18 million units by April 2018.
