Everything you need to know about Netflix Originals

What Netflix Original really means, plus all the ones you can watch today.

Caitlin Petrakovitz studies the Marvel Cinematic Universe like it's a course in school, with an emphasis on the Infinity Saga years. As an audience expert, she rarely writes but when she does it's most certainly about Star Trek, Marvel, DC, Westworld, San Diego Comic-Con and great streaming properties. Or soccer, that's a thing she loves, too.

Watch this: Everything you need to know about Netflix Originals

What does the word Original really mean to Netflix?

Well, it's a little confusing. You have original-originals -- shows created and driven by Netflix, like "House of Cards," and the upcoming "Daredevil."

Then, there are also continuation properties, ones Netflix picked up from cable TV and made additional seasons of, like "Trailer Park Boys" or "Arrested Development." Finally, there are exclusive shows of which Netflix is the sole distributor within the US, like "The Fall."

Got it?

Basically, if it's branded as Original, Netflix paid a lot of money so you can't watch it anywhere else. Here's a current list of all the Originals you can watch right now (and some you'll see later this year).

Editors' Note, March 23, 2014: Shows and comedy specials added to Originals available now.
