Marvel's Inhumans are getting a movie and a TV show -- sort of

Once upon time, Marvel was going to make an "Inhumans" movie. And it still is, sort of.

Wait, but what about "Agents?"

Turns out Kevin Feige wasn't kidding when he said the Inhumans movie would for sure happen. Just, maybe, toeing the line of facts. Technically, he's right. A just-announced ABC-Marvel-Imax "Inhumans" venture is set to premiere exclusively in Imax theaters September 2017. Ultimately, it will be a weekly series airing on ABC, but only after a two-week window in theaters.

Marvel describes the Inhumans as a "a race of superhumans with diverse and singularly unique powers," and if you've seen ABC's other live-action Marvel show, you've heard the name. In fact, I can hear you asking now: Isn't "Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D." all about the creation-slash-evolution of Inhumans? You're not wrong, but it sounds like this show will instead tackle the adventure of Black Bolt and the royal family.

In addition, the truly special part about this announcement is Imax's involvement. Marvel says the first two episodes of the show will be filmed entirely with Imax cameras (much like another upcoming Marvel movie), and the collaboration marks Imax's "first time as a financing participant in a TV pilot and series." This is huge -- literally and figuratively. (Can you imagine watching a ​"Game of Thrones" fight scene filmed entirely in Imax? Yes please.)

"Inhumans" was previously set for November 2018, and I'm honestly not sure whether I'm more excited to see the Inhumans on a screen sooner, or more scared that this seems to spell the beginning of the end for "AoS."

"The Inhumans" has the potential to be a huge, diverse series, and it certainly seems like there's a lot of room for two shows about the team, but seriously, what's going to happen to Daisy & Co. now? Let's speculate away!

(In case you missed it, last Friday The Hollywood Reporter said ABC Family's rebranded Freeform channel's still-in-development "Cloak and Dagger" series is now eyeing a winter 2018 premiere. Guess we'll really have to update the Marvel timeline now, huh?)
