GTA 5 PS3 pre-loading delayed until Monday

PS3 gamers hoping to play GTA 5 on the stroke of midnight thanks to a pre-load could be in for a disappointment...

If you're wondering why you can't pre-load GTA V for the PS3 just yet, it's because it's been delayed. The game was supposed to be made available to pre-load through the PlayStation Network from yesterday, but Sony has confirmed on the official PlayStation forum that you'll have to wait until Monday.

"I can confirm that GTA V will be available to pre-download on Monday the 16th of September," an online support coordinator posted, CVG reports. "I will try to find out why the date has changed but its [sic] confirmed that the pre-download will be on the 16th."

Disgruntled carjackers have responded by giving Sony both barrels on the forum, pointing out the whole point of pre-loading was to be able to play it at midnight on the 17th, when it'll go on sale. The game is a 17GB download, so if everyone who pre-ordered tries to pipe it to their PS3 at once… well it won't be pretty. Those poor servers.

I foresee a few headaches come Monday. Especially if you've got a slow Internet connection. In that case, you might be in for a longer wait than if you bought the game in the shops.

Still, there is some good news. Rockstar has revealed its plans to grow the online portion of the game, expanding it to encompass all past games in the series. Rockstar North president Leslie Benzies told Game Informer that Grand Theft Auto Online is just "a beginning" for Rockstar.

The company's dream is "to create an entire Grand Theft Auto world that consists of everything we've done or are going to do then let the player move freely between them." As if the game wasn't going to take up enough of your time already.

Did you want to pre-load GTA V? Will you be hitting the shops on Tuesday to pick up a copy? Let me know in the comments, or give us a drive-by over on our Facebook page.
