Australian Nintendo DS fans itching to get their handhelds online will have to hold their breath for a while longer. Nintendo Australia says it has no details yet on whether Opera Software's DS browser will make it to our shores.
The news follows last week's announcement that Opera will start selling the DS browser in Europe from 6 October. The browser, which is sold as a DS card that allows the unit to connect to a network, has been available in Japan since July. An Opera spokeswoman has confirmed to CNET.com.au that the browser's next stop will be the US, although no timelines were disclosed.
A Nintendo Australia spokesman said there "was no word on a local release" for the Web browser.
The DS browser uses both of the unit's screens, with the bottom touch screen acting as a keypad which is navigated using the DS' stylus. Web functionality is already available on the DS' main portable rival, Sony's PlayStation Portable.
