Warner Bros. Interactive has formally announced the final instalment in the popular Arkham series, Batman: Arkham Knight.

Following a lukewarm reception to Warner Bros. Games Montreal's prequel, Batman: Arkham Origins, developer Rocksteady is back at the helm for the final chapter in the Batman: Arkham series.

As the pre-rendered cinematic trailer shows, the real star of the game is the Batmobile, which will be drivable for the first time, in an even larger Gotham City.

After a foreboding opening narration by Scarecrow, who was teased in an Easter egg at the end of Batman: Arkham City, there are appearances by Two-Face, Penguin and Harley Quinn who have presumably teamed up to try and destroy the Batman (because that worked so well for them in the past).

Batman: Arkham Knight is scheduled for a 2014 release on PS4, Xbox One and PC.
