2017 Honda Pilot gains Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, loses fingerprints
Any promise to reduce screen smudges is a promise I can get behind.
Smartphone connectivity plays a big part in Roadshow's review scoring. That's why we're always pleased to see a car add either Apple CarPlay or Android Auto. To the delight of many, Honda just added both to the Pilot.
The 2017 Honda Pilot promises to pack both Apple CarPlay and Android Auto inside its Display Audio touchscreen infotainment system. That's the only major update for the 2017 model year. Other improvements include new interior color options (black interior with white paint for all trims) and the addition of a new touchscreen surface that cuts down on fingerprint smudges.
Otherwise, it's more of the same with the Pilot, which received an 8.1 rating in our most recent review. We enjoyed its dashboard tech, high-power USB ports and driving dynamics. Our biggest problem with it? A lack of Android Auto and Apple CarPlay.
The 2017 Pilot returns with five major trims -- LX, EX, EX-L, Touring and Elite. Power comes from a 280-horsepower V6, mated to either a six-speed or nine-speed automatic, depending on trim. Fuel economy ranges between 18 and 20 mpg city, and between 26 and 27 mpg highway -- again, depending on trim.
There's plenty of safety features available, as well. The Honda Sensing suite adds forward collision warning, autonomous emergency braking, lane departure warning, lane-keep assist, adaptive cruise control and road departure mitigation. Blind spot monitoring is also on offer, and a multiangle backup camera is standard. Pricing ranges from $30,595 for a FWD Pilot LX to $47,070 for a fully loaded AWD Pilot Elite.
