Amazon Prime Day 2022 will take place in July, but Walmart is beating its online rival to the punch.

Today is the final day of the company's Walmart Plus Weekend sale. The sale, which began on Thursday and ends today at 3:59 p.m. PT (6:59 p.m. ET) gives paid members of Walmart Plus exclusive access to deals and discounts on thousands of items across the site, including tech, home, patio, food, auto, pets, toys and clothing. Access to this sale is not available to those with a Walmart Plus trial, so you'll need to pay to upgrade your membership in order to get these discounts.

If you're interested in joining Walmart Plus to get access to this sale, there's an added perk that can make signing up for the subscription even sweeter. Right now, when you join Walmart Plus as a paid member, those with monthly plans will receive $25 off your next order of $50 or more, and if you choose an annual paid membership, you'll receive $50 off your next order of $75 or more.

What is Walmart Plus?

Walmart Plus is the big-box retailer's own version of a type of Amazon Prime service. It's a subscription you can pay for monthly or annually that offers you things like discounted fuel, free shipping on all orders (no $35 minimum), "scan and go" for in-store purchases and more. You can sign up for $13 per month or $98 per year. That compares favorably to Amazon Prime, which is $139 per year or $15 per month.

This year, Walmart is hosting its own version of a Prime Day-type sale with its first Walmart Plus Weekend, offering several days of exclusive discounts -- and for a limited time you can get six months of Spotify Premium for free.

When is Walmart Plus Weekend?

Walmart Plus Weekend kicked off on Thursday, at 12 p.m. PT (3 p.m. ET), and runs through 4 p.m. PT (7 p.m. ET) Sunday, June 5.

Do you need to be a Walmart Plus subscriber for the discounts?

In order to get access to the discounted prices, you'll need to be a paying Walmart Plus member. Signing up for the free trial won't be enough to get you access (unlike on Amazon Prime Day, where you can shop with a free trial membership).

The likely difference here is because Walmart will have PlayStation 5 consoles in stock, and those have only been available to paid Walmart Plus members for the past few restocks.
