Apple Watch Series 5 in space gray and silver stainless steel
Apple/CNET

If you own an iPhone, the Apple Watch is an incredibly useful accessory to have, but not everybody wants to spend $400 and up to get one. If you're happy to go for a slightly older model, you can save a ton with Woot's limited-time refurb sale. The retailer is offering Apple Watch Series 3, Series 4 and Series 5 devices from just $70, giving you the chance to see if an Apple Watch is for you, for less.

The cheapest option in the sale is the Apple Watch Series 3. It's only really worth considering if you absolutely have to spend as little as possible on an Apple Watch, since it starts at just $70 -- but be aware that this model is now several years old and doesn't support the current WatchOS 9 software. As a starter smartwatch, it could give you a feel for Apple's wearable ecosystem without spending more than you need to, but it's probably worth spending that bit extra to get the Series 4 or Series 5.

The Apple Watch Series 4 comes with the larger screen size of the more recent Apple Watch models and has the ability to take an ECG on your wrist. Its more advanced S4 processor enables it to run WatchOS 9, giving it a little more longevity, too. It's available from $130 in the sale with cellular support, and a variety of case finishes and band colors to choose from.

If your budget can stretch a little further, the newest option in today's sale is the Apple Watch Series 5 with prices from $160. The main addition over the Series 4 is an always-on display that makes using the device as a timepiece much more convenient without degrading its all-day battery life. It also has the Apple S5 chip which, being a year newer, is a little more powerful and future-proof.

All of the Apple Watch models available at this sale have been rated as "scratch and dent" refurbs. That means that while they have been tested and confirmed to be in full working condition, they will have noticeable cosmetic blemishes, according to Woot's refurb grading and criteria.
