James Gunn confirms Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special's MCU timeline placement
The special is due out in late 2022.

The Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special will take place between Thor: Love and Thunder and Guardians of the Galaxy Volume 3, James Gunn confirmed in a tweet Thursday. The director answered fans' questions after teasing them with a photo of the special's script.
He also noted that it'll be live action rather than animated, and he recently finished the script after writing a treatment "years ago."

The Holiday Special is scheduled for release in late 2022, after the Thor sequel hits in May 2022 and before the third Guardians of the Galaxy lands sometime in 2023. Actor Vin Diesel already said the Guardians will show up in Love and Thunder, so we'll get a steady stream of their adventures.
Gunn also confessed to loving the infamously terrible Star Wars Holiday Special as a kid. So the Guardians Special will hopefully include long musical numbers and extended scenes of characters speaking in alien languages without subtitles.
