In the full trailer for X-Men: Dark Phoenix, we see the mutant superheroes face their most formidable and powerful foe: one of their own.

The trailer, released late Thursday, shows a rescue mission in space that goes wrong and almost kills Jean Grey (Sophie Turner). A mysterious force enters the X-Men character's body. It not only makes Jean infinitely more powerful, but also unstable.

Jean unleashes her powers, and spirals out of control. She hurts those she loves and, ultimately, could be what divides the  X-Men  once and for all. And if that's not enough, there are aliens who want to weaponize Jean's power and rule the galaxy. Jessica Chastain plays a shapeshifter character named Smith, and she is shown manipulating Phoenix for her own agenda.

Chastain was interviewed by late-night host Jimmy Fallon in tandem with the trailer's release.
