Following are some of the notable tech-related events scheduled for the week of Oct. 7 through Oct. 11.

The whole family has gathered to pay respects to your Aunt Minnie. Memories and casseroles abound, occasional tears are daubed with hankies, and everyone agrees it was a mistake to take up ice climbing at her age. But you sit glued to your laptop, pecking away at your browser as you search for a better deal at coffins4less.com.

Or at least that's the way it could turn out, pending the results of Federal Trade Commissions hearings this week to consider competition in Internet sales of--among other items--caskets.

Speaking of moribund, next week's financial calendar includes earnings announcements from several biggies in the communications sector, but the big news is uberportal Yahoo, looking for results from a blizzard of recent revenue-boosting initiatives. And the CEOs of Microsoft, Intel, Dell Computer, Sun Microsystems and Hewlett-Packard will all try to read the high-tech tea leaves at a symposium conducted by research firm Gartner.

The information was gathered from First Call, Hoover's Online, CCBN's StreetEvents and CNET Investor.
