Silicon Valley students shun tech
The go-go dot-com days haven't convinced Silicon Valley teens to pursue tech careers, according to a new study by Joint Venture: Silicon Valley Network. Two-thirds of students surveyed said they had no interest in tech jobs, and a full 39 percent said they thought high-tech careers were boring. The study, which questioned students in the 8th and 11th grades in late 2000, called for more efforts to attract students to high-tech jobs, saying that the need to look outside the Valley for workers costs area companies $2 billion to $3 billion annually.
