Sun Microsystems has released a beta, or test, version of the upcoming Netscape 6 for the Solaris operating system, Sun said. Sun promised the final version of the new edition will be smaller, faster and more secure than the previous version. Sun, which formally allied with Netscape when America Online acquired Netscape in 1999, is adding Java and XML technology to the Web browser. The software will be downloadable from Sun's Web site through Oct. 31, the company said.
