Sony Electronics announced its digital home video recorder, the first available in the United States The recorder's digital interface is based on the IEEE 1394 open standard, which enables connection to personal computers. The recorder provides 500 lines of horizontal resolution (compared with 280 lines for a standard VHS picture), digital audio, and provides drop-frame time code and cassette memory for editing and indexing of tape contents.
