The market for digital handsets grew 73 percent in 1996, according to Dataquest. Ericsson took the No. 1 spot away from Motorola, which dropped past Nokia to third place. Dataquest said it expected Motorola would rebound in 1997 but may not regain its former dominance in the digital handset market.
