Short Take: HP, NEC team to boost HP's Unix
Hewlett-Packard and NEC announced plans to add to HP's Unix-based operating system so that it can take advantage of forthcoming IA-64-based computers based on 64-bit chips from Intel. NEC and HP plan to share engineering resources in a bid to further optimize HP's UX software for high-end uses. The software is likely to roll out in conjunction with IA-64 processors, now delayed until the year 2000.
