Short Take: CheckOut.com CEO steps down

CheckOut.com chief executive Richard Wolpert has quietly pulled back from day-to-day operations at the online retailer and entertainment Web site, the company confirmed. Wolpert is now the acting vice chairman of the board of directors, and Wherehouse Music chief executive Hugh Hilton has taken over. Wolpert, who founded CheckOut in May 1999 with Hollywood broker Michael Ovitz, also cut ties with the Yucaipa Group, owned by CheckOut backer Ron Burkle.
