Little-deployed cable modems offer Internet access speeds as high as 38 mbps, according to the company, many times faster than 56-kbps analog phone modems. 3Com's VSP model sells for $229, while the VSP Plus version (which also includes an 33.6-kbps modem for upstream transfer) goes for $279. The company plans to broaden its distribution later this year.
