Researchers power up TeraGrid network
An academic and commercial consortium has fired up a high-speed network used to join several sites into the interlinked supercomputing project. A fiber-optic network run by Qwest Communications now links groups of computers at the National Center for Supercomputing Applications, the San Diego Supercomputer Center, Argonne National Laboratory, the Caltech Center for Advanced Computing Research and the Pittsburgh Supercomputing Center.
The network has four lines that can each transfer 10 gigabits of data per second.
