Oracle CEO Takes Lead in Yacht Race

Oracle CEO Larry Ellison is taking a break from competition in the computer industry by competing on the high seas in Australia's Sydney-to-Hobart yacht race--and so far, he's winning.

Oracle CEO Lawrence J. Ellison has taken an early lead in Australia's Sydney-to-Hobart yacht race aboard the 24-meter, carbon-fiber sloop, Sayonara.

Ellison and his crew, which includes media magnate Rupert Murdoch, bested local favorite Brindabella, in the first day of the two-and-a-half-day race. Ellison and the Sayonara have already beaten the Brindabella once, by two minutes, in the Canon Big Boat Challenge on December 21, 1995.

Online coverage of the race, including photos, QuickTime video clips, and regularly updated standings, is available at the official Sydney to Hobart 1995 and Oracle Web sites.
